"Catveat"

Yesterday, I posted about how my irritating cat Seth (notice I didn't say "evil", just irritating) is a spiteful little imp! And in truth, he is. BUT, I've known some really awesome cats in my day. For example, Todd's parents had a huge orange cat named Fred. Fred was one of the sweetest, most laid back cats I've ever known. He had a great spirit, and when Todd's parents said they would eventually be moving and couldn't take Fred with them, I begged them to let us have him (he's really that cool!). However, instead of letting us *know* they were moving (hence allowing us to pick up the Fred), they surreptitiously moved without Todd's knowledge. The way Todd found out that his parents had moved was that he tried to call his brother Tim for his birthday, and the number was disconnected. Confused, Todd e-mailed his brother Brian, (the sanctimonious uber-Catholic brother), who gave Todd his "parents" new phone number. When Todd called, his parents were gone, but Tim was there. When Todd asked about Fred (as well as many other pressing subjects, such as why his parents would move without telling him), Tim said they just left Fred outside. Yeah. Nice. Way to go christians! I guess being kind/humane to animals isn't one of their tenets (never mind St. Francis of Assisi). I was so pissed I have vowed NEVER EVER to speak to Todd's parents again. They KNEW I wanted Fred more than anything, and they purposely abandoned him because they just didn't give a shit. Now THAT'S spite!!! I have learned that in most cases, humans are much more spiteful than any type of animal!

I know most of my friends are "cat people" and will probably be somewhat offended or downright pissed off by this post, but, it has come to my attention that cats are damnable, spiteful creatures! Sure, they're cute - they do cute things when they play and cuddle and all that. But deep down, they're out to get you! Don't be fooled by their blank stairs into space - they're planning something heinous, like, for example, peeing on your bed repeatedly, and then taunting you after they do it. Or throwing up ON CARPET when a hardwood floor is right next to them and the carpet is all the way upstairs! Yes folks, whether you want to admit it or not, your precious felines are up to no good, and though you may be under their spell of aloof elegance, sensual appeal, or kitten tomfoolery, you will soon learn the awful truth for yourselves. Heed my warnings! GET A DOG!! Dog love is the shizniat!

On "Solaris"

I was going to call this "Musings on 'Solaris'" (referring to the sci-fi novel by Stanislaw Lem, but I thought it might be pretentious! ;-) Anyways, I picked up this book graciously given to me by Julie Hruby called "The Mind's I" and it had some reflections by Lem and other writers & philosophers & stuff, and I remembered how much I enjoyed reading that novel (Solaris). In brief, it's about this guy who goes to this strange planet (well, he actually goes to a space station orbiting AROUND this strange planet), and shortly after he gets there, strange things start to happen, like, oh, he sees his dead girlfriend, but she's real, kind of. Anyway, the planet has this effect of taking memories from people and forming them into tangible things/people, so is this chick real or isn't she? Well, sort of. I was thinking about it in a pseudo philosophical sense, and I think what Lem is trying to relate (maybe) is that really, people in our lives are pretty much all the memories and recollections of them - that we project on them. These people in our lives are the sum of our memories of them. It's kind of a perceptual thing. And also, how well can we REALLY know somebody? I think that's a point, too. We can sort of predict people's behavior, but in a very vague way. We can't look through our loved-ones' eyes. That's why I think we will always always always be alone. I don't mean to harsh on anyone's mellow, I was just thinking about this. Ignore me...

Forever Knight

I have really been trolling imdb and netflix, and even amazon "lists" to find some new tv series since we finished bab5, firefly, and all the other good stuff. I then remembered meathiel once talking about being a fan of Forever Knight (I don't think she meant the one with Rick Springfield in it, but the actual series). Well, all I can say is "thank you, meathiel! You always have such good suggestions! I think the reason this whole thing started was that Todd and I were discussing whether we should watch the newest vampire/detective show "Moonlight". Well, we watched an episode online and it kinda sucked. I think "Angel" is another show in this genre. I downloaded it (Shhh, don't tell anybody!) but I haven't watched it yet. I think we are set for a while! About the only shows we ever watch on TV with any regularity are Lost, Project Runway, Family Guy, South Park, and Futurama. I also like "news" shows like 20/20 & Dateline, but don't hold that against me! ;-) We just "discovered" we have a few more channels because of our cable being digital, so now I'm watching "Something About Miriam" - really very interesting! Not that I like "bachelor" style shows, but this has a twist. These guys think they are dating a woman, but in reality, they are dating a pre-op transsexual. Everyone knows my fascination with this whole topic, so I guess it's no real surprise that I watch that. Nevertheless, I also (believe it or not) actually read books from time to time. I generally rely on fiercytemper for book recommendations. As much as I hate to admit it, it does seem like the Euros know their culture. Except for comedy...I think American comedy is truly inspired. But everything else, European sensibilities rock! O.K., maybe just a little too much information for everyone. I will shut up now!

Well, it's official - I got on the scale yesterday and have lost almost 5 pounds after my return from Germany. Fresh fruit and vegetables were available all the time, as was really wonderful bread (REAL German bread!) and most importantly, NO COOKIES OR SUGARY CAKES--i.e. crap, although we did have the occasional dark chocolate bar. Plus, I walked my ASS off (I guess maybe literally, although most of the weight came off of my Buddha Belly), and climbed, like, 4 flights of stairs *at least* twice per day! My flabby gut is much flatter now, although I can't say I will ever have solid abs. I guess the weight loss is why I want to go to the Dock tomorrow night, before I gain all my weight back and become an unattractive pig again! Soooo...hopefully I will see some folks there!

O.K., so I was bored and curious about Brixton, is that so wrong? Actually, it doesn't look half bad - of course I don't live there, so I can't say. I suppose it would be like someone from another town seeing some nice piccies of Over the Rhine during the day - that doesn't look so bad, either!

I can't hide the fact that I'm a little disappointed with Todd and the general situation of our vacation plans. We *had* planned to go to Germany again for WGT - superb line-up this year, it will be a shame to miss it. Unfortunately, even after goading from me, Todd refused to buy the airline tickets that were the cheapest they've been in a while. He passed up tickets to Berlin for $600, and then passed up a deal to Leipzig for $800. Now, the tickets are a whopping $1400! Guess that means we can't go, as it's pretty much out of our price range now. Todd offered another destination, but you know what? I just don't care anymore. Now there's nothing to look forward to, and I'm just working for the sake of working. Not to do anything fun with my life. It's times like these that I really wish that pollup in my uterus was cancer!

Todd is being rather a butt today, however, I am presuming this is just an extension of last night, when he rudely turned off the TV show I was watching stating "I didn't need to watch that". Granted, it was about the whole Anna Nicole Smith thing, but at least he could've waited until the end - there were 10 fucking minutes to go! This morning, no apology. This afternoon - still no apology. Although he *did* clean the bathroom. Is this considered an apology? Do actions speak louder than words in this type of situation? Anyhow, back to my point. I was looking for movies at the library to watch when I came across one that looked intriguing, called "They Came Back". It's basically a kind of zombie sub-genre, where loved ones come back from the dead and how the town they come back to deals with this development. Todd, of course, poo-pooed it, naturally, because IMDB reviews weren't that great...and of course you see, everything HE thinks of is gold, while I am apparently totally misguided in my tastes. His attitude sucks. He needs to be "re-educated". I wish I could send him to Maoist China for a week!

Many of you have probably already seen the movie, but we've been jonesing to see it for a while, and now is our chance! We're going to Biaggio's Bistro for dinner pre-movie around 6pm, so we'll be in the area if you want to drop in. Hope some of you can join us!!
